The Goal
Philippians 3:13-14

Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But, one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, press on toward the goal to wind the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (NIV Bible)
The Lord placed the idea of this design in my mind and I attempted it several times before I finally captured it and had it on paper. If you study the design, you will see I made considerable use of pastels, particularly greens and pinks to make it bright and shining, like an award. This design was a lot of fun to do and I really felt energized as I did it and did not want to put my pens down. The cross is placed in the center at the top of the design denoting that our ultimate goal and prize is Christ Jesus and spending eternity with him.
This design is based on two verses from Paul’s letter to the Philippians. Additionally, in Hebrews in Chapter 12, verse 2, it is written; “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning shame, and sat down at the right hand of the the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”
When I was involved in track and field many years ago, I set specific goals for my races. I had split times (I ran the mile race) and finish times and I tracked my progress on my goals. As a businessman I have set business goals and tracked my progress. Why do we do less in our spiritual lives? And, why so often do we fail to see that our life goals must include Jesus our Lord and Savior? Are we fearful of what the world thinks? Setting and achieving goals takes discipline. It requires accountability. As Christians our first thoughts must be to the Lord and we must be disciplined in our faith. Secondly, we must first of all be totally accountable to Jesus. Let the world think what it wants to think!
Fix your eyes on Jesus, set your goals based upon your relationship with him, and then do your very best because that is what he expects of you. The world is watching you because you are a Christian. Remember, you just might be the only Jesus someone sees today. Do you believe Jesus likes what he sees?
